The Concept
At the start of 2025, I moved from the UK to Toronto, Canada. Before moving, I decided I wanted to document my time in Canada through some sort of creative medium. Stamps have always interested me, these little nodes of place and time. So I have used them as the canvas for this series of illustrations. I started sketching out stamps of different places I found throughout the city. The project documents my experience of Toronto's food, places, and events that have shaped my time in the city as a newcomer. Each stamp is a piece of this ongoing story. Project Mission
I started sharing my illustrations on social media and gained significant interest and support. Many people asked if they could buy my prints, which was lovely. Selling my work as an 'artist' was new to me. The project name is inspired by its overall mission. When developing how I wanted this project to evolve, one of my key focuses was to make my art accessible at an affordable price point. I believe art is for everyone, but the price of buying art often makes it in accessible for most people. The project name is inspired by the price point of my tiny prints. I looked into different ways people could access my work, leading to the development of art dispensers (made from converted chewing gum vending machines).
Mail Club
While the machines are a perfect way for people in Toronto to get involved with the project, I wanted to find a way for people outside the city to connect with it in a tactile way. Love Letters From Toronto is a monthly physical mail club that allows people from all over the world to join the Toonie Stamps Project. Each month, members get stickers, stationery goodies, and an original Toonie Stamp, plus a letter and a map postcard about an area of the city. Sharing history, anecdotes and resources about all the great things Toronto has to offer.
Whether it's a one-off treat or a monthly piece of joy delivered to your door, this club aims to
